Here we go again. Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC ) was slammed over a bizarre town hall speaker who suggested eating babies to solve the climate change crisis.
OMG, Soylent Green is coming!
But the LaRouche PAC, which believes climate change is a hoax, said it planted the troll. LaRouche PAC – which is affiliated with people with a long history of peddling unfounded conspiracy theories that have now turned pro-Trump, took credit for planting the woman.
Of course, political attacks and counter-attacks have ensued against each of the political parties. There is no real evidence that the Trump campaign was directly involved, but the left is calling fowl that Trump and his supporters have amplified the hoax to make the left look bad. Yes for sure. The right has said that because AOC did not immediately reject the woman’s claim, somehow she is tactically approving of what the townhall speaker was saying – perhaps AOC was merely stunned and poorly responded.
Latter AOC claimed that she was merely trying to be gentle with a mentally ill person. Still, others said, that it would be wrong to say that the townhall speaker was mentally ill, rather radicalize by the left. There is some evidence of this.
A Swedish scientist speaking at a Stockholm summit offered an unusual possible tactic in combating global climate change – eating human flesh. Others have claimed that climate change activists are fear monger people to act radically – click here for a rebuke of the climate change activist Greta Thunberg. So it is no wonder that people are getting more and more radical on this issue as well as other issues on the political landscape.
Ok, now that the dust on this clickbait story has settled, RFS1 asks what are the longer-term takeaways on this incident? First, the open townhall debate format is done – most likely all political events. Going forward any debate or political formats, if not already, will become merely staged political events – no real discussion. They will need to carefully screen all participants and fix the narrative, to achieve the desired political outcome.
Going forward, both sides via third party intermediaries will be looking to troll the other side – even trolling the trollers. Meaning that many of the stories we shall see will be nothing but clickbait in an attempt to trigger emotive moral outrage against the other side. When is the last time you have seen a meaningful debate on climate change, universal healthcare or geopolitics?
Triggering emotive moral outrage is an attempt to shut down the other side’s voice – silencing free speech. In some cases political protests will be used to actually shut down the other’s venues – we have seen this countless times. Notwithstanding actual government policies, good or bad, the rise of the Trumpian era political tactics is largely to blame. This does not mean it is all Trump’s fault, he was merely responding to all the social justice outrage promoted by left over the last 5 to 10 years. Both sides are to blame, amplified by social media for this new political phenomenon.
The 2020 U.S. presidential election is fast approaching. It will be 80% emotion and at best 20% policy. This is in effect, dumbing down America. Get your helmets on and fasten your seatbelts.
