” I am an America First Republican.”
This is a video message by Joe Kent announcing he is running in Washington State’s 3rd Congressional District against Rep Jamie Herrera Beutler, who was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump.
“My name is Joe Kent. I’m a Veteran, a father, widower, a Gold Star husband and a conservative who is deeply worried with the direction that our nation and district are heading. I am mostly concerned that the person we elected to represent our values and make our voices heard decided to listen to deceptive and divisive media and radical left instead of standing strong for the people of Southwest Washington and the over 74 million Americans who voted for President Trump.
When Representative Jamie Herrera Beutler cast her vote to impeach President Trump, she betrayed the will of our district. She showed the radical left that they can manipulate her.”…
Lately, several candidates have been identifying as ” An America First Republican.” This, may in fact be a minimal distinction, or could it be something more? Recently, a staunch MAGA supporter former congressman Doug Collins made the announcement that he would not be seeking office for Georgia senate or governor in 2022:
I’m announcing today that I will not be a candidate for any office in the next election cycle. Read more ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/IruVtnjZl7
— Doug Collins (@RepDougCollins) April 26, 2021
Collins states: “goodbye for now but probably not forever.” Since the 2020 election, Collins has been seen in political offshoot circles and discussing third-party possibilities, including at Mar-a-Lago and with the Save America team.
Former President Trump has created a broad organization /Pac which is being utilized to support and facilitate getting America First candidates elected across the country. The Save America platform is targeting incumbent Republicans to primary as well. It will also be the vehicle he uses if he chooses to run again in 2024. The War chest is considerable and growing, read here.
Does Trump have an ace up his sleeve?
This year at CPAC 2021, Trump gave a triumphant and extremely well-received speech detailing his desire to reform the existing Republican Party from within and not by starting a third-party alternative. While many felt this goal was a fools’ errand, others felt that you had to work within the structure of the present-day GOP and force change. The Right Wire Report held a debate on the issue, and you can listen to those exchanges here.
Donald Trump also won the CPAC Straw Poll as nominee for 2024. When the poll removes Trump as an option, Governor Ron DeSantis wins.
Since the election, January 6th, and CPAC, much has transpired. Trump has been very vocal on his dismay and disgust over the weakness exhibited by the Republican party’s failure to push back on the Socialist Biden steamrolling agenda. He has also now seen Mitch McConnell’s true colors and many other leaders within the party. he has been ” holding court,” as the media claims, at Mar-a -Lago where the Republican establishment has come to ” kiss the ring.” But many who do not fall under the establishment label have made the pilgrimage as well.
Could Trump have a backup plan? It is not clear as of this writing if Trump’s Save America has officially endorsed Joe Kent’s bid for office. I suspect that it is a slam dunk he will gain that endorsement along with many others that have already obtained the nod. You can scroll through here to see the carefully selected endorsements Trump has made to date. The endorsement grants an entire funding/marketing/ ground game operation to a candidate without leaning on the GOP or giving the GOP the power to sideline your campaign prospects.
Here is where you can learn more about Joe Kent and donate to his campaign.
However, fast forward and imagine it is November 2021. What could that look like? Here, allow us to help with your visuals and factor in the Republican party capitulations. Trump moves center stage, and with a stable of ” America First Republican” Candidates he has endorsed and an organization financial powerhouse behind them -announces the GOP is no longer a viable party and proceeds to rebrand the existing structure as the ” America First Republican Party.”
Is this a new 3rd party? Is this a name change only?
Consider by that date, many incumbents may be underwater and fighting to win their 2022 seats…do they balk at Trump’s move? Could McConnell or McCarthy afford to do so? How many Republicans will be facing a primary by a Save America Pac, America First candidate? More pertinent question – How many incumbent Republicans will have aligned with Trump’s America First Republican organization by this time, even if not under a primary threat? Are you getting the chokehold picture yet?
Perhaps this is chasing down a rabbit hole type thinking for many.
But if there is one thing Trump taught us all who were paying attention -Trump plays 3 -D Chess on the political board and always has a backup plan.
