A Soul-Crushing Moment: I Am an American in a Country That No Longer is America

As an American, every day that passes, I tell myself that today is the low point, and it can only go up from here. I did not always feel this way, but this daily reckoning insidiously began its march around 2010.

I self-soothe and reassure myself that parents will stop yielding to societal pressure soon and put a stop to “Drag Queen Story Time” in Preschool classrooms, Gender pronouns exploration exercises in kindergarten, and hormone therapy for transitioning children and adolescents.

I make little lines in the sand moments as markers only to have them crossed by our culture hourly with no ripples, no outrage, and no real-life consequences to follow. It is exhausting trying to stem the tide watching so many rushing to frolic in the waves.

I wrote an article a while back that perfectly illustrates these red hot blinking “low points” that everyone around me seems to simply shrug off as, oh well, it is what it is, you have to go along to get along – defeatist crap. Here is an excerpt from that article:

Here is a perfect 24-hour snapshot that illustrates just how far gone our once great nation has fallen and what the masses are tolerating as a norm:

  • In a stunning omission -The President of the United States does not mention D-Day or give reverence or reference to the 77th anniversary of the Allied invasion of northwestern Europe that turned the tide against Nazi Germany in World War II.
  • A rumor originating with a journalist tweet blows up the Twitter verse that the former President Donald Trump speaking at a  GOP political rally was wearing his pants backward on stage. All mainstream media outlets ran with this story including the speculation the no zipper front was due to dementia or a bowel accident. The news media knew this was a false story.
  • A sitting congresswoman, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), demonized the United States and Israel on Monday, claiming that the two democracies commit “unthinkable atrocities” just like Islamic terrorist organizations. She specifically compared our country to Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.
  • “Closing his June 6 MSNBC broadcast, Brian Williams broadcast a Lincoln Project video comparing the heroes of June 6, 1944, to Antifa.  With a straight face.” This blatant dishonoring of veterans to a violent group of fascists thugs is revolting.
  • Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) writes an Op-Ed stating he is against the removal of the filibuster rule to pass HR1 which essentially ends free elections going forward and his own party call him a white supremacist, “Power Hungry White Dude” , traitor, Jim Crow-like, and worse.
  • Former President Barack Obama gives an interview on a major cable news outlet declaring he is worried by republicans who are “cowed” to Neo-Nazi praising Trump and gaslighting racial tensions over voting laws. Obama repeated the Charlottesville ‘fine people on both sides” propaganda lie that went unchallenged by Anderson Cooper.
  • President Joe Biden’s $6 trillion budget proposal demands $200 million for maternal health care — but refers to mothers as “birthing people,” adopting progressive parlance designed to ignore gender-based distinctions.
  • MSNBC analyst and New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay told the leftist audience, “I was really disturbed,” after she saw several American flags on Long Island over the weekend. “These people hate their country.  They don’t even hide it.”
  • The children’s Network Nickelodeon release a video of a full-throttle, sexualized, flamboyant, Drag Queen dressed as a superhero serenading kids about Gay Pride week. The Black Power fist is part of the presentation.

But today, I ran out of runway for me to steady my core being and shore up my conscious reality to mount resistance – and it was a soul-crushing moment…still is.

No more cognitive dissonance, no caveats with blanket denials, and no more ” The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow. All that was left was the dark, raw, undeniable truth. I am an American in a country that no longer is America. No hyperbole but fact.

The National Archives Records Administration (NARA) website lists this information to define its purpose:

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation’s record keeper. Of all documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government, only 1%-3% are so important for legal or historical reasons that they are kept by us forever. Congress established the National Archives in 1934 to preserve and care for the records of the U.S. Government. Our mission is to provide public access to Federal Government records in our custody and control. Public access to government records strengthens democracy by allowing Americans to claim their rights of citizenship, hold their government accountable, and understand their history so they can participate more effectively in their government.

America came into being after the Revolutionary War and our Founders forged documents that breathed liberty and freedom into our ethos. The Founding documents, The Bill Of Rights, The Declaration of Independence, and The United States Constitution are the foundations to what makes America uniquely America. They set forth a social compact between government and citizens and establish the single element that makes the” American Experiment” the only one in the world that when adhered to prevents tyranny. Our liberty is not a right given by the government it is inalienable and must be defended by the government we decree consent.

So against this salient point can you imagine what it must feel like in the gut to view this scrolled across the documents above:

Archives

No, you are not seeing things that are not there. The National Archives Records Administration placed a “harmful content” warning on the Constitution, labeling the governing document of the United States as “harmful or difficult to view.”

On further inspection one is informed:

“NARA’s records span the history of the United States, and it is our charge to preserve and make available these historical records,” the administration said in a statement. “As a result, some of the materials presented here may reflect outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent views and opinions. In addition, some of the materials may relate to violent or graphic events and are preserved for their historical significance.”

” So-called harmful historical documents could “reflect racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes; be discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more,” and “include graphic content of historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more.”

Now, I can hear the rebuttal. Inclusiveness! Equity!  Why, it is right there in the (NARA)’s values statement: “[work] in conjunction with diverse communities, [and] seek to balance the preservation of this history with sensitivity to how these materials are presented to and perceived by users.”

I refer you back to last July when a task force within the National Archives declared its own rotunda, where the documents are displayed, to be structurally racist. It called for “trigger warnings” around the displays as well as “reimagining” the rotunda to “dialogue” about the “mythologization” of the founding.

Now we have trigger warnings on the United States Constitution!

As this news made its way onto social media news sites the NARA hastened to clarify:

Got that? They mark everything in the catalog pertaining to the history of our country as ” Potentially harmful.”

Feel better? I don’t!

Please spare me the diatribe about the ” woke culture ” and youth being trendy and impulsive, or that our nation is just experiencing growing pains. Enough already!

How many people did this concept of labeling our sacred founding documents as potentially harmful language pass through? No, I am serious, I want to know. How many American adults working in our behemoth government signed off on this anti – American notion?

If you are still trying to understand what is meant when someone uses the term post-constitutional America you just ran into the Buzzsaw – this is it! A country that fosters hate and self-loathing for its existence and codifies it in official documents as if that is a normal prudent protocol.

Again, a soul-crushing moment. What is left to defend anymore if so many of us would not be repulsed and enraged by such a nation suiciding act as labeling the US Constitution and Bill Of Rights as potentially harmful language?

Throw me a lifeline, anyone?

"The simple step of a courageous individual is to not take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world." Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

I was born and raised in the enigma known as "The Big Easy." There, rooted along the banks of the great Mississippi River between the creeping bayou and Lake Pontchartrain, I was conscripted on all things pertaining to human nature.  I am the quintessential southern woman, that is to say, I defy most could never accurately define what that label truly represents.  Brined below sea level where one respects; the haunts lingering about, the force of storm surge, the ethos of Mardi Gras, and the sanctity of generational family-I know what it is to belong to an organically diverse culture.

Early on in life, my career path serpentined and led to brief stints of living varied experiences as I indulged my passions for painting, musical theater, and the culinary arts. My young experiences evolved my purpose and honed my intuitive skills and I became a Medical Professional specializing in mental health with a focus on child/adolescent needs. After living decades in NOLA, and after hurricane  Katrina unearthed the realities of modern-day inner cities, I made the pivotal decision to relocate to where my family and I spent our summers in a quest to find security and civility in my life.

High up on one of the "grandfather mountains" I now perch in a Smoky mountain community in East Tennessee. Although, I would not trade my formative years in Louisiana, unfortunately,  that era of  America  is  no longer obtainable in the times we live - changing course was the best decision "Evah!"

I am a warrior  for freedom and truth , steeped in my ancestral history ,I am constantly reminded that stillness and introspection expands the mind and heart to possess a more nuanced understanding of all things in our internal and external world. We are all destined to bash ourselves against the rotted cultural rocks of humanity's unraveling until we recognize that a shared moral tone is essential for a free society. A healthy culture is one comprised of many unique people who offer shading and depth to the experience of living, yet all choose to accept basic truths that bind us all together-a societal moral tone. Intolerance  , censorship, intersectionality, cancel culture, apathy ,and ignorance will only groom oppression and tyranny.  Critical thought, differentiation, and dissent is your individual right granted not by government -and must always be protected, championed, and defended.

  1. I put this on my Facebook page. No I did not write this well written article. But it is how I feel about my country. Wake up America. Please if you are reading this pass it along on your social media!

  2. I will always revere the Us Constitution and the Bill of Rights that recognizes our rights endowed by our Creator.I realize that these rights predate the Constitution but as a founding Document it was written beautifully by Great Men who have my undying respect.Even though they did not create these rights they founded The Greatest Nation to ever exist on our planet. They afforded more Freedom than has ever existed until that point. To my horror the left has indeed destroyed our Nation.I for one will always despise them for the pure selfish foolish damages they have done to Freedom.I am declaring right now at this moment in time I am at war with the destroyers.I will fight to my final breath so that Freedom may be seen by my children. Our generation will never have full and complete Freedom in our lifetimes again. The illegal invaders to our country are the enemy and will be treated as such by me.Those that enable will be scorned and shunned by me.Furthermore all other actions that are needed will be taken by me.Join me if you will. If not no matter because I will not leave this earth knowing I did nothing to bring back Freedom for my Family and yours. To the Traitors death is the least of the punishment that must be brought to bear for their evil.Make no bones about it they are Evil and of the destroyer himself. If it is any conciliation we have already won the fight because HE is on our side. Sincerely yours an American Patriot.
