Judge sentences convicted rapist to probation, saying prison sentence “isn’t appropriate”

A New York judge is facing criticism for his decision to sentence a confessed rapist to probation rather than prison after the man pleaded guilty to sex crimes against four teenage girls, including one charge of third-degree rape. The judge told the court he felt incarceration was “inappropriate” for the man who was under 18 at the time of the assaults.
