How is New York attorney general’s lawsuit against Trump different from investigations?

The New York attorney general has announced a civil lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, three of his adult children and the Trump Organization for alleged fraudulent business practices. Attorney General Letitia James said she’s referring her findings to other legal offices for possible criminal investigations.
