Shazam 2: Fury Of The Gods – Preview For The Opening Box Office Weekend

On March 17, 2023, Shazam 2: Fury Of The Gods opens nationally. The long-awaited sequel to the 2019 Shazam movie was delayed because of the covid19 pandemic. Shooting for the sequel was supposed to take place in 2020 with a 2021 release date, but life tends to interrupt plans. Make sure you have seen the original Shazam before engrossing yourself in the latest adventure. Shazam was a fun ride with just enough scare to jolt you at times, but overall it’s good wholesome family entertainment. The Shazam concept is what Hollywood should be focused on and cranked out on an assembly line. No one gets offended, and everyone has a good time leaving the theater with a little smile on their face. Perhaps even stopping around the corner to shout the word ‘Shazam‘ to test if it works.

Who or what is Shazam?  He is a superhero that first appeared back in the 1940s. Fawcett Comics created Shazam who was originally called Captain Marvel. DC Comics sued Fawcett for copyright infringement claiming it copied Superman, and as a result, Fawcett ceased all publications of the comic in 1953. DC Comics ended up with the rights and produced a cartoon in the 1960s, and a live-action Saturday morning show in the 1970s. By the time of the revival, DC Comic’s rival Marvel Comics, already had a Captain Marvel Superhero, so DC rebranded him by simply naming him Shazam. (Shazam is an acronym for Soloman, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury)

The story is fairly simple young Billy Batson is a foster child who stands up in a fight for his Foster brother. The Gods notice his bravery and were looking for someone pure of heart to take over the throne. Billy answers the call, and every time he says Shazam, he becomes a superhero. Asher Angel plays the teenage Billy Batson, and Zachary Levi plays the adult superhero Shazam. Billy lives in a foster home in Philadelphia with his other foster brothers and sisters, all of whom were cast for specific reasons that you will understand when you see the films – don’t want to spoil too much.

We could all use a Superhero about now and some downtime that leaves us rooting and grinning. So go download the Shazam movie from 2019, then plan an evening at the theater for Shazam 2: Fury Of The Gods. I promise you will be thoroughly pleased.

Here is a deleted scene from the first Shazam that shows the best chemistry between Zachary Levi and the girl who plays his sister Darla:
